On April 23, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed SB 14, known as the Regulatory Reform Act. The bill, which passed with bipartisan supermajorities in both the House and Senate, creates the Regulatory Efficiency Office to help agencies streamline state regulations and ensure all rules are effective, efficient, and transparent to the public. It was the first piece of legislation to be signed into law during the 89th Texas Legislative Session.
At the bill signing ceremony, Rod Bordelon spoke to a reporter about how the new office will help reduce the regulatory burden on Texans. Bordelon serves as policy expert for the Coalition for Regulatory Efficiency and Reform, which backed SB 14 and continues to advocate for passage of two additional reform bills this session: HB 11 to expand occupational licensing reciprocity, and HB 12 to enhance Texas' Sunset review process.
